It sucks when writers pass away before finishing their work, but I also wonder how much that really matters. Look at STAR WARS; Lucas lives to make the prequels and totally fucks them up. How many fans of that series wish secretly that he had died before he could sully their view of the original trilogy with Episodes I-III? I think fans of something are perfectly content to imagine their own ending (or beginning, or middle, or alternate history) provided it's not finished by the author. How else do we get so many damn fanfics?
