I will never ever have another. Period.

We've all heard about Seasonelle, the birth control pill that causes women to have only four periods per year. An even newer pill (which should come to the market soon), called Anya, will take periods away entirely. Both of these pills are taken daily and normal period cycles resume once they're no longer used ( Read more... )

The only reason I'm scared of those pills is because they fucked up my friend's emotions a whole bunch. But my sister is on one of the quarterlies, and she loves it. I plan to go on it as soon as possible.

I also have severe problems with anemia, so bleeding monthly is bad for me.

I'm slightly anemic too and the bleeding sucks. You mentioned the pills that fucked up your friend's emotions... I took the Ovcon brand birth control pill for a long time, and it seriously messed with me. My guess is the new pills are like the old ones; it's a matter of luck and you have to keep trying different ones.

on pills and emotions... yes, it can and no, there's no way to figure out which ones will or won't push your buttons without trial and error.

my experience w/ www.orthotricyclen.com
fine mostly, still very heavy bleeds, but no cramps. cleared up the last of my acne. lasted 5 years and then it "stopped working" in that i started having breakthrough bleeding that i couldn't predict.

my experience w/ www.mircette.com
nightmares, lasted 6 months

my experience w/ another pill i forgot the name - depression and bitchy-ness lasted about 6 months

my experience w/ www.seasonale.com
i started bleeding in the middle of the second month, even though i continued to take the pills. lasted 6 months

my experience w/ www.yasmin.com
current pill, no issues. really.
~ 5years i did take a break in there and flirt with seasonale, but for reasons listed above i came back to yasmin. been directed by my gyn that if i want to take it without the sugar pills i can. there is also an even lower yas dose pill, but right now i'm really quite happy.

That's a really nice write-up. I'm still surprised (though I rarely say anything) when I hear people say the Pill is an "easy and convenient" way to go.
