 CONGRATULATIONS BARACK OBAMA!!

I was not sure if we would ever see this day.  It's hard not to get emotional about this when you know what it feels like to be discriminated against.  I think he ran a brilliant race and despite all the blows, he still managed to keep his integrity and humility throughout. I deeply admire and am so inspired by his ( Read more... )

Ditto! Took the words right out of my mouth and made them more articulate :)

I have never actually felt pride in this country since I moved here from Portugal. In fact, these past 18 years have turned me more into a Portuguese nationalist. Yesterday that all changed. Yesterday I was proven that the people can in fact make a difference here. It's such a wonderful feeling. I can honestly say now that I am proud to be an 'quasi'-American. LOL I say that b/c I haven't gotten my citizenship yet. I wish they called me for my oath ceremony in August so I could vote in this election. But, unsurprisingly, Texas went to McCain by 1 million votes. HOWEVER, Harris County went to Obama :)

God Bless America! May the next four years turn this country around and restore its integrity in the eyes of the world!

Harris went Democrat?! Oh WOW! That IS big news!

Yeah. Ditto. It's like electing Martin Luther King to be president. Both are so eloquent in their speeches. They really know how to inspire and create a sense of unity among people.

Can you believe that the show 24 has a black president, and now we actually have one?! Reality imitating fiction? Maybe 24 helped take the shock out of a seeing a black president, and maybe made the idea a little more palatable???

LOL I was thinking the same thing. TV shows have helped us get accustomed to a non-white-male president. Remember that show 'Commander-in-Chief' where Geena Davis was the first female president? She won an Emmy for that role but it was cancelled. My theory is because the Repubs didn't want the country to get accustomed to and accept a female president. This was just when the Democratic primaries were starting.

Wasn't there another show with a black president? I seem to remember someone else. Or a movie.
