I have just spent a whole night in school, in order to finish the shooting of a stop-motion film about ninjas (and a few pirates). The filming was done around 3 AM, and since then I've just schlepped around on the interweb. I couldn't go home, 'cos of no buses going + someone has to keep an eye on the equipment until the animation master, whom I ( Read more... )

Staying up all night is always a bit odd. I stayed up all night with a friend at this city festival-thing once, because she'd never done it. Around midnight, completely without the aid of drugs, we ended up in the supermarket, giggling at the rice. (There was this guy called Ice who did an agricultural project with local farmers to grow a special variety of rice, and the words "Ice's rice" seem really funny at that time of night. Somewhere around three in the morning, we ended up getting Chinese food, and I finally dozed off ten minutes before the donut shop opened in the morning, which meant I got teased forever.

Me and a mate went to fill up on Pepsi once, around ten in the evening, just before the store closed. We were all sugar high and giggling, and when we walked out we heard one of the cashiers saying that we'd probably had a bit too much to drink. But nope, 'twas all sugar. XD

I have now semi-slept a few hours, under the desk on a couple of folded blankets. I think I can stay awake the rest of the day now, and I'll have to, 'cos if I go home to sleep I won't be waking up till tomorrow.

You know that sugar highs are almost entirely a myth? Unless you've been starving or you have weird blood sugar issues, you're not going to get anything approaching a high off sugar. It's actually a combination of the power of suggestion (expecting to get high off something can affect your mood and behavior) and confirmation bias (whenever someone eats a bunch of sugary food and gets all excited and giggly, they go "Sugar high!", but when they get excited and giggly without sugary food, or eat a bunch of sugary food and feel normal, that doesn't get counted).

It's amazing how few hours of sleep it's possible to get by on when you need to stay awake.
