Picking a starting point at random -
I've had a Proper Job™, TWICE! The summer of 2011 was spent in Norway, working at Gardermoen Airport, packing taxfree trolleys for aeroplanes. It was a rather stressful summer; I had trouble with getting my salary, finding a place to stay, getting the hell away from one place I found to stay at, and being generally bored cos of not having anything to do on the days I didn't work (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic kept me sane when I was basically living in a closet with a bed). And then there was the thing with the bomb in Oslo and the shooting at Utøya, which put a pretty massive damper on everything just as everything was starting to get sorted out for me.
Things I got out of that summer: some Working Experience™, a newfound love of ponies, a Sherlock Scarf™ (well, close enough), and the knowledge that, if my instinct is telling me something's dodgy about a potential landlord, it's probably worth paying attention to.
The summer of 2012 was spent doing the same job, but this time at Arlanda Airport in Stockholm. I stayed at my parents' place, so I wasn't as isolated as I'd been the previous summer, but this time work was under- rather than overstaffed, so I got to work a LOT. But that was good, as I had a whole bunch of debts that needed paying (not any more, yay!).
So that was work. Apart from that I've spent almost 1 and ½ years at the most awesome school I've attended so far. Basically, I'm learning how to be a filmmaker, and while the education itself is far from perfect (the one teacher who's actually MADE films is quitting cos none of the other teachers ever listen to his suggestions, and that's sad since he's my favouritest teacher ever), but the mix of people in my class and the acting classes is quite extraordinarily good. It is also a boarding school, which is why I'm now living in a small town that goes by the quaint name of Molkom.
Learning in this school is based on practice rather than theory, which suits me perfectly (university studies never really worked for me, I realised in hindsight). So basically, I've made and been a part of the making of a bunch of short films; some pretty good ones, some less successful. I have a good feeling about the one I'm working on now; it's about an introvert young woman who hasn't achieved much in life. She finds out that she has about one week left to live (brain tumour), so now she has to figure out who or what decides what her life has been worth. The message of the film is that you don't have to be some crazy party animal or adrenaline junkie to really be alive, the important thing is being happy with yourself, and feeling that the choices you've made were the ones that were right for you. It's a subject that's pretty close to my heart, to say the least.
The official filming period doesn't start for another few weeks, but I've already had one scene for my film shot, in Malta. You see, our main teacher decided that he wanted a scuba diving certificate, and therefore us film students should also get one, and learn a bit about filming under water. So now I've been to Malta, which was lovely (warm southern country with a strong British influence? I'll be back!), and I have a PADI Open Water Diving certificate, which is very nice. Gotta go diving in the Red Sea some day; me and mama went to Hurghada, Egypt for a week around New Years Eve, and the best part of that trip was going snorkelling by a glorious coral reef. So many fishies! O.O
What else have I done? Quite a lot, probably, but some things stay the same. I still haven't figured out how to achieve a boyfriend, District 9 is still my favourite film, BBC's Sherlock is still awesome, and I'm really looking forward to The Hobbit, but not as much as I'm looking forward to Neill Blomkamp's Elysium, because Sharlto Copley.
Ta.
