the pretty boy never did

the simple truth is that one does not progress
from being a boy to being a man automatically

it is something that must be learned
and in my experience
the price of tution isn't cheap

anyone whose never had to pay a price
to keep what they have
can't understand that

too often these days
I meet overgrown girls and boys
who haven't yet learned that

what you say matters
what you do matters even more
and
to be mindful of that
