Parabiosis by Penumbra.

I read it awhile ago when you recommended it. And I liked it, ya know? But it wasn't close to being a favorite. Well, on impulse, I was glancing over it again tonight and actually got sucked into it this time. It's so clever that you have to be in the right state of mind to read it, or else you won't get it. At least for me.

I had to have the fic open in one window, wikipedia.org open in another, and m-w.com in still another window. And so it's taking me twice as long to read the fic because I have to figure out what the hell Penumbra is saying/talking about half the time.

But once I put a little effort into it and really read hard into all the references, it's beautiful. I adore it.

yes, you do have to put your back into it. i was looking up a ton of stuff as well. but, she's so talented, she also slips in these great episode references. like, "he tore a page from a book and walked away." it took me forever to realize she was talking about The Unnatural. glad you're re-discovering its beauty.
