Counts to prompt #76 Anticipation from my
100quills Next Generation Table There wasn't one thing Teddy could pin down, one reason that he loved the fair. It was a combination of the lights, the sounds, the smells, and the thrill of all the rides waiting to be visited.
Teddy had been six, maybe seven, the first time Harry took him to the fair. He remembered his Grandma being worried about it, and he remembered Harry assuring her that Teddy would have fun, that he wouldn't be scared. And as soon as they got out of Harry's car, Teddy had been in love.
For saying there wasn't an ounce of magic in the place, it was still second only to Hogwarts in terms of being spell-binding. Now that Teddy was nearly twenty, it was still as magical as it had been when he was a child. As a teenager, he'd had the end of the school term to signify that summer was close, and with it the fair. And now he had the end of his second year of Auror training to mark the start of his growing anticipation.
But this year was different, and only time would tell if that was for better or worse. It wasn't that the lights were any brighter, because they weren't. And it wasn't because the food was any better - it definitely wasn't.
This year was different because Teddy wasn't holding Harry's hand to stay safe, like he did as a child. This year, Teddy was holding Harry's hand for the simple glory of touching, to drag Harry from one ride to the next and coax him onto the rollercoaster with a kiss and a smile.
More now than ever, Teddy loved the fair.
