Stood in the draughty corridors of the International Floo Port, Scorpius wished he could think of something to talk about, so that he wasn't just stood here with Harry's children, trying not to feel uncomfortable. They'd accepted his relationship with Harry - eventually - but they were hardly his best friends.
The letters had come thick and fast for the past six months, full of updates on Harry's time working with the Australian Ministry. The overseas position was a fantastic career opportunity, Scorpius knew that. And it was only for a year. But that didn't make it any harder to stomach, that his lover was quite literally on the other side of the world.
For the past two months, the letters had ended on the same promise. I'll be home for Christmas. Scorpius had alternated between grinning inanely at the thought of seeing Harry again, to preparing himself for the worst. He didn't want to pin all his hopes on seeing Harry for a few days over Christmas, and then have them dashed at the last minute.
But stood waiting for Harry's Floo to get in, Scorpius couldn't stop himself getting excited. All being well, and if the journey wasn't delayed, Harry would be there any moment.
It was Sod's Law, of course, that it would be the moment Scorpius chose to look to his side and smile tightly at James that Harry would step out of the Floo. Lily saw him first, shrieking and dashing across to him. Scorpius stayed still, suddenly shy. He let Harry's children greet him first, hanging back and biding his time. After what felt like forever, Harry broke away from Al and strode across the laminate flooring. And then Scorpius was home again, touching Harry for the first time since the summer, pressing their lips together as they hugged in the middle of the concourse. He wanted to say how much he'd missed Harry, but he couldn't find the words. Scorpius hated showing emotion in public, so he kept his eyes tightly closed, just holding onto Harry as all his Christmases came at once.
"Told you I'd come home for Christmas. For you."
