I'm not going to lie and say I know exactly what your poem is talking about, but it's beautifully abstract. Nelj definitely has a way with words.
I LOVE this stanza: I never knew how to dance And I’d forgotten how to cry But you learn and you remember When you’re stepping on bits of glass Scattered in the room like so many nightmares Or macabre confetti for fate’s birthday party Why clean up, when you weren’t even invited? To keep you from getting hurt, of course So you’ll never have to step on the pieces
And this line: But who am I to change routine When routine lets me hide in the wings Even though I’ve been cut If I can’t be in the show At least I can stay backstage
