I'm fairly sure something is wrong with me. "Emotionally unavailable" doesn't even seem to cut it and I fear a remission. I spent too long fighting stuff like this off to have it all go to waste. I somehow suspected that you would update this yesterday, not sure why so much....Is it possible perhaps that there are many people with whom we could be happy, but at different stages in our lives and that maybe the idea of commitment, at least formal commitment is somewhat passe, perhaps a remnant from feudal times that we should now fully dispense with. We are on the verge of entirely redefining the idea of what a family is, soon same sex life partners will be given the same status as spouses in terms of health care and death benefits. At the same time, the progression is to treate unmarried cohabitants as married people when it comes to property rights and benefits. Notions of alimony are eroding and couples are seen as a unit instead of two individuals. All these developments are eroding the traditional notion of a family and perhaps its for the better...Perhaps we should, instead of looking for one person to be happy with, look for one person to be happy with now and be open to the idea that this can change.
