Big hair Figaro (belated)

I had fairly high expectations for this production, based on what N told me about the group (Aylesbury Opera Group). The learning curve got a lot steeper very fast towards the end of the rehearsal period: it brought home to me that wandering around on stage with a copy is pretty useless for anything but basic blocking, because it's impossible to ( Read more... )

How scary that you almost didn't make it on stage in time!!!

Are you ever going to post pictures? I'd love to see the big hair and sparklies and period costume and all of it. Sigh. In my next life, I'm going to be an opera singer, or an actress, and play dress-up ALL the time.

Are you very fast at learning your part? Or slow or about average?

Dress-up is a major plus for me! Even for concerts, I get to wear big sparkly dresses: I feel sorry for the men in their penguin suits.

And yes, it was very scary. If you know Figaro, there is a moderately long introduction to Act II (couple of minutes?) where Susanna and I had planned to walk on and have a whole mimed conversation. When I burst through the stage door, I heard the music and realised I was meant to be ON STAGE. Naturally that was the night they made the DVD, so my probably wobbly and wild-eyed entrance is preserved for posterity!

Will definitely post pictures as soon as I get them, provided I can work out how to do it.

Is it expensive to have lots of sparkly big dresses for concerts? At least the men can wear the same penguin suit over and over without looking odd.

Most of my dresses are bought in the sales (usually from Monsoon, who do good dressing up clothes), so not too expensive. I sometimes find stuff second hand as well: evening styles don't date that much, and the clothes don't get worn often, so they're usually in good condition.

All tax deductible as well (I think).
