proposition 4

Here's one that I'm pretty torn on. On one hand, voting against it seems like the logical thing to do, being a very liberal voter. I do believe that a young woman should have the right to an abortion, even though I myself would never get one. I think that in cases of rape or when it poses a life-or-death situation to the mother, it is more ( Read more... )

i would vote for it. i'm a liberal voter as well, but tragic anomalies cannot dictate the rules. there will always be losses, which losses do you find to be less bearable? that's the question. choosing between two types of good will never amount to a decision, i find that almost all decisions have to be made through honestly comparing the evils and accepting the consequences.

I will vote against it; abortion rights are very important to me. While it would be ideal for a teenage girl to share her accidental pregnancy with her parents, and for them to debate the pros and cons of each action, I feel that there are certain parents exist that would make the process much more difficult. In regards to the tan/nose piercing/aspirin argument, I would say that an abortion is a much more personal, important, life-changing event--because it is more important, and not just some weird cosmetic choice, it should ultimately be up to her. If she wants to discuss it with her parents, then great. But if she knows they are going to go crazy and force her to keep her child, which she knows she doesn't want to do...well, I just think its important to protect her right to make her own decision.

i was torn too, but the way i see it is that it is a surgery, and a girl under 18 shouldn't be able to have an operation that is capable of having great physical and emotional impact without parental consent.

I think that no matter what girls are going to have abortions, and if they don't want to tell their parents about it, then they'll just go back alley and probably die.
