Well... now that the draft is over, I think it's a good time to do this. Because of all the fighting we have do while we're here, either by choice or by force, it's a good idea to have some understanding of combat in case of an emergency. From what I heard about this last battle, even the people who took refuge weren't able to stay out of the fight

[Sh'yeah. Marica knows well that the girls can dish it out just as well as the boys with the right training.]

Is this a hand-to-hand kind of style?

It is, and more than that! We use hand-to-hand, combat fans, and katanas, mostly. I like to think that the best way to survive is to be prepared for anything.

Fans too, huh? I admit that I'm not the strongest in those areas, but maybe I'll come check it out.

Feel free. I'll be working in the battle dome this afternoon, so if you want a demonstration, I can show you.

Oh, right. My name is Marica. What's yours?

Suki. It's nice to meet you!

Likewise. I'll see you then!

[And as promised, Suki will be at the battle dome for a good chunk of the afternoon, going through a sparring session with a holographic program of her fellow Warriors, if Marica happens to stop by.]

[When Marica shows up, she's dressed in a comfortable tunic and has a training sword along with her. She might as well train a bit if she's going to hike all the way up to the battle dome, right?

When she spots Suki, she'll hang out and watch from a safe distance until the sparring session is over.]

[Suki's working through a series of exercises with her fans, with the other warriors - dressed as she is, with the armored dress and facepaint - split into two teams, one versus the other. With such identical costumes, it ought to be difficult to understand whom is on which team, but the girls all seem to mesh together in a smooth, almost artistic battle formation. It goes on for a good five or ten minutes when the battle finishes, both teams separating and bowing to show that they're done. Then all the girls but one fade away, and Suki glances over to see that she has an audience.]

Oh, sorry to keep you waiting over there!

[Marica watches closely. Suki's fighting style reminds her of Yomi's... And so do her clothes, just a little bit.

When Suki acknowledges her, Marica smiles and waves, coming closer as she speaks.] Oh, don't worry, it was interesting to watch. Was that the Kyoshi style?

Yeah, it was. [Suki folds one of her fans, then then, as an afterthought, offers it out to her.] You're Marica, right? Want to have a look?

Is that all right? [She takes the fan carefully. Are there pointy bits or anything on here...?] And yes, I'm Marica. How do you do?

["How do you do"? Awfully formal! Suki just smiles. And the fan has sharpened edges and is pretty solidly made, so it's obviously not just a decoration.] It's nice to meet you. Have you ever used fans before?
