I'm fooling everyone

so as you can see it's been a while. summer is here, yet I find myself wasting it most of time. I think I just needed a break from everything. I need time to do things for myself. I've been reading a lot, and just working, and I've been at the hospital volunteering. And hey, guess what? I am now a Reiki practitioner at Maine Med. What's ( Read more... )

Rachel, I think it is awesome that you're starting to think independently from your parents. It's a hard thing to do for people our age, because some parents put a terrible ammount of pressure on their kids to do, believe, and value the same things that they do. It's a really selfish process. It's too bad. I personally think it's totally unfair, but we have been so conditioned to this lifestyle that we just tend to shrug it off our shoulders. I really found myself this year. It probably has to do with my ulcerative colitis diagnosis and the ongoing complications of my parent's divorce. It seems that it usually takes a life-changing event to initiate some self-searching. Don't feel hesitant about this. It will feel so rewarding when you have figured things out for yourself.
The Reiki therapy sounds very interesting. Does it have to do with the mind a lot? I'd like to know about it, because it might do some good for my diesease.

AHHHHH! Reiki would be amazing for ulcerative colitis!!!! So Reiki is a Japanese technique used to heal and relax. Basically, it combines the theory that energy flows throughout all living things and that I as a Reiki practitioner, act as a conduit to this energy so that it can be transferred to promote healing and relaxation. It's a very simple treatment to help open up your energy channels, or chakras, and it treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit. I mean, I could go on and on in explaining exactly what it is, so this is just the basics. I think Reiki would be amazing for your particular disease. Do you have any questions?

In response to your own self-search, congrats! Yeah, I think there comes a time when all of us come to the realization that our parents have molded who we are quite significantly to a point where some of us do not even possess their own value system. I don't know if I frown upon this so called "brain-washing" like you, simply because it's fact of life. I don't really think there is a way out of it, or so it seems. I don't think children are capable of forming their own value systems, personally. It's just a natural bias to the whole world that we as humans acquire as we grow up, and I think it's an amazing process to find who you really are and it makes life that much more interesting. However, I do think that it is outrageous for parents to put a great amount of pressure on their kids to believe in what they believe, but I can see why it happens...

Very admirable, Rachel =] Your motives are very refreshing as well! It's not like, "Omgg. Omg, nonconformity, omg," but rather growing up and becoming your own person. I like that. I like that a lot. Mmm. Yes.

And I totally saw you at the hospital (Joe, too!) That pretty much drew the curtains on my bleak day on R9W ("Hey, roll up these 100 precautionary gowns and hand-wash these musky fans with cold water, rags, and handsoap." :D) Your day is Tuesday, right?? I'll have to sub more that day... for ultimate-stalking efficiency

BUT HEY, YOU KNOW I GOT GLASSES!? YEAH, YOU'RE JEALOUS

But what is this Reiki I hear all the kids are talking about?? I'm very intrigued! I guess I'll have to do some research

anyway, keep on truckin' =)
