Although he was later regret just how familiar Roxas had become to him, Axel had recognized the footsteps. Roxas just had this particular way of walking, and Axel had heard him approach so distinctly in the last almost-year that when those tell-tale steps were taken behind him, he couldn't help but turn around. Of course, as he had expected, his eyes fell upon his best friend.
At first, no words came. As much as he was glad to see him, he was still bitter over the fact that both of his friends had left him; abandoned him at some craphole castle that only kept his attention about a quarter of the time. The rest had been held solely by Xion and Roxas. It also didn't help that Roxas was wearing, well, that. He looked strange without his Organization coat. Eventually, he found his voice, and put on the same nonchalant tone he had perfected over time

There was a mildly amused snort. "How do you know? Might've gotten up here unnoticed. You do have this tendency to zone out, after all. Zombie." There was no hesitation in his body language; calm and at ease. He went so far as to lean over, barely, and give Roxas' shoulder a nudge. For a brief moment, it had felt like home. At least until he straightened back up and looked over the unfamiliar city. The darkness of night was slowly crawling over the houses and other buildings, lights illuminating random windows. That, too, was a reminder of Twilight Town
