nexus clinics waiting area [open]

Claire is seated in the waiting room with her knees tucked up to her chest. She's very fidgety and nervous, but endeavoring to stop it, or at least to not show it, so she stays still. She has no idea what they're going to do next -- whether or not she has anything resembling a family structure all hangs on whether Elizabeth lives ( Read more... )

Shmee hissed at the idea of leaving Elizabeth alone with the doctor, but gave in, mostly because...as much as he needs Elizabeth to live, part of him just wants a reason to kill someone. Shmee likes killing things. It helps with the fucked up mess that's being...this.

He's even talking more human. It's disgusting; he feels like he's being fucked in public every time he does that and there's another metaphor he'd never known to use before. Fuck.

He paces, twitching awkwardly, and eventually whirls around to snap at Cliare because he needs to do something. "What?!"

Claire gives him a look which says, approximately, 'what the hell is your damage?' Of course, Shmee sort of IS damage personified, but that has never stopped Claire from being annoyed or spiteful toward him to absolutely no avail. "...excuse me?"

She picks up one of the magazines nearby and flips through it, frowning. It's some People magazine thing, which she was never all that into even pre-apocalypse. Jackie would've paid attention to it, though, and that's the only reason she doesn't put it down.

"You're just- sitting there." He stalks across the room, far too comfortable in Todd's gawky body for anybody's comfort, and pauses to kick a chair vicious. Which leads to pain, which makes him hiss again.

He'd normally be taunting her, hurting her, pushing her, anything to make her twitch- but Todd's still too fucking lucid and insistent for that. "You know, she doesn't motherfucking care about you, retard. Ever think of that?" He grumbles, kicking the chair again.

"I have no idea what the hell you're talking about, as per usual, so I'm gonna go see if I can find something to eat." She sets the magazine down and gets up, pushing her hair back behind her ears. Claire is entering a stage called 'near-complete apathy' at this point, and it's uncomfortable for her.

She turns when halfway out the room. "Do y--does Todd want anything?"

Claire's opinion is that he needs to eat, but she's not in the mood to try forcing it.

Elizabeth, for her part, is eventually coherent and conscious enough for visitors to be allowed into the modest room she's currently inhabiting. It's probably more of a testament to the fact the clinics staff can see plainly that Todd and Claire need to see her rather than Elizabeth's readiness for company.

She looks...slightly better, in that she's alert and responsive, but the medical equipment ensuring she doesn't slip away in the night (without Shmee's desperate measures keeping her alive) dwarfs her unfortunately now incredibly skinny form, and she's translucently pale. She is making a visible effort to be presentable, when they get into the room, compulsively smoothing the blankets over her knees, propped up by pillows and a bed that'll sit up if she pushes the right buttons.

Nexus doctorin', there's nothing like it.

After obtaining crackers with peanut butter on them and apple juice (like five year olds, Claire thought, going back to when she first met Todd and brought up the 'buddy system' that never worked for him), Claire tugs Todd along to check on Elizabeth, who is apparently ready for visitors. She peeks around the door, with a tentative smile on. "'Lizbeth? Hey, you're awake."

She's prepared to keep Todd from crush-hugging Elizabeth, if necessary, but hopefully he's present enough that it won't happen.

If Todd smiled anymore, he would right now, with peanut butter and apple juice gumming up his mouth; he didn't have the kind of childhood Claire had, and these things were only discovered when he was fourteen or so.

He knows enough not to hug her. She could snap, or something. So he murmurs something vaguely like a greeting instead and sidles into the room.

Elizabeth smiles back. The bedding is soft and warm, she's bathed for the first time in quite a while, there are real doctors really taking care of her and Claire and Todd seem to be safe...these are all things worth smiling about. She's working on the assumption, right now, that if it's not real, she doesn't want to hear about that, because it's the closest she's felt to good in a while. A pretty long while.

"Hey, yes." She makes a small gesture toward the chairs in the room. "We're not in Wisconsin, I take it."
