Claire and West are on the roof of one incredibly hilariously named Radiant Research, which does in fact do animal testing. They are about to commit a terrible sin, which is to say, releasing all the animals from said research lab. There is actually a plan for this, of course, because while they are naive teenagers attempting acts of superheroism

"Hi." West, you said that already. It's kind of neat how Claire has the ability to just occasionally put a little dent in that incredible self-assurance. Really. He could use the puncturing.

Not right now, though. Now is the time to be very confident, because they are going to need it to actually make it through this without being arrested. (Hint: this probably won't save them either.) West is pretty high on sharing this with anybody, and...well. Claire is special. WE COULD GO ON, but we won't. For there are criminal activities superheroings afoot.

He gestures at the skylight, which is many paned and sloped. "We should be able to slip out one of the panes. That's how they take them apart to clean them." ...has someone been thinking about this in advance?

Claire hasn't really realized it yet, but she probably will. She's perceptive enough, it just hasn't occurred to her what's going on quite yet. Right now, it's all fun and games. And she could use some of that, after everything, so thank you very much, West. Of course, they really ought to be taking this more seriously.

"All right." Claire fusses with the panes a bit, and notices that there's a loose screw. She gestures at West. "Do you have...I don't know, a pocket knife, or anything?"

Boys carry that sort of stuff, don't they?

She is, FYI, totally unsurprised he's been considering the logistics of this plan.

GOOD, she should be. It's entirely possible West does this shit all the time, but we will blame the not knowing on his swiss-cheese brain. It is 100% convenient in this manner.

West checks his pockets, because...really, he doesn't know. It is a dream! He could be carrying anything, including ...idk, a unicorn. For meta and lulz. AND LO, he has a Leatherman, because it seems reasonable. He gets to work on screwing--excuse please, unscrewing the windowpane, turning halfway over his shoulder to address Claire. Just for the sake of conversation. "Can I tell you a secret?"

YES, unscrewing the windowpane, although a rooftop wouldn't be a bad place for the f--NEVER MIND WE'RE MOVING ALONG NOW. Anyway. Claire rocks on her heels and observes this, because it's his pocket knife and he seems up to the task, so. For now? Waiting. She's mostly there to carry stuff, probably, which is maybe the first and last time in her life that will ever be her role.

"Yes. Are you actually a girl?" She remembers him pulling that on her, okay, since it was...yesterday, and aims a mischievous smile at him to go with it. It's okay to pinch her or something, West, she deserves it sometimes.
