this is what we'll be, oh glory [west]

Claire leaves West a message asking him to come by whenever he "has time," which is a pretty good sign that something is seriously wrong--if the tremble to her voice doesn't make that equally apparent. After, she goes to clean herself up: fix hair, reapply mascara, take a few deep breaths in front of the bathroom mirror and stare at her reflection ( Read more... )

It's a couple hours before West shows up; when he's awake he doesn't remember his dreams, as myriad and vivid as they are, nor how they're not really dreams. And when he finds himself back in Philadelphia it doesn't occur to him to question it - he just knows, with the unshakable confidence that makes him alternately compelling or insufferable, that this is once again where he's supposed to be.

Walking to Claire's is too slow; he rides a gliding current of wind like he was born to do it, he knows now how to take hold of little slipstreams in the atmosphere to take him faster than he can go himself. On other occasions he's done the same thing to the opposite effect; like floating on his back in water.

He makes his entrance onto the balcony, yet another missed opportunity to actually take the stairs and chat with Nathan, though doubtless they've at least met by now. Dear Claire: Please let him in before he freezes to death.

Claire spots him fairly promptly, and is somewhat amused by his tendency to just fly up to the balcony rather than going to the door--but it is convenient, even if Nathan might not like it very much. She gets up quickly and goes to push the sliding door open.

"Hey." She looks tired or out of it or something, a little distant where she hardly ever is, but she's struggling to get back to normal. "That was quick."

"I don't exactly have a busy schedule." He is driven by blood--BLOOD, do you hear me--to quipsnark at very nearly all times, but her expression visibly throws him. "Is something wrong?"

Pretty...obviously there is.

"Yeah, West." Her tone is so soft, it's almost alarming. She goes to sit on the edge of the bed, plucking one of her stuffed animals (a green cat, actually, because she can't quite deal with bears any more). "You know, um...my friend Todd? He's sort of--he was like my best friend, almost a brother."
