I fucking hate the (math subject) GRE

It's a test of speed. Fucking speed. Why the fuck do we care about speed? I could do (almost) every problem on that test if I had four hours instead of three, but no. If it turns out that twenty percent of all grad school bound math majors do integrals a little faster than I do, then clearly I'm not qualified to do research. Clearly! AHH! I ( Read more... )

Last time I took an exam that dealt with integrals, it was understood and expected that we'd all refer to a cheat sheet (misnomer, really) for the weird ones--the integrals of trig functions etc. I can't see the point of testing speed... I mean, either you get the Fundamental Theorem or you don't, and can we move on now, please?

Awesome. Between the two of us we can definitely take him. I'll just walk up to him and say, "I'm taking you down, GRE." And then he'll laugh smugly and say, "Oh yeah? You and what army?" and then I'll say, "This one!" and gesture at you as you jump out of the bushes. And then I guess we'll shoot him. It'll be great.

Yeah, first time for everything.

By the way, I initially totally misread your other comment and thought it was directed at me. I didn't understand what you meant by me being undeleted and somehow knowing myself. My best guess was that you knew someone with a deleted livejournal, let's call her Lesly, who was always swearing bitterly and publicly threatening standardized tests. I figured that you were snarkily suggesting that this entry was so uncharacteristic that I must not have written it, and that Lesly had used my computer (since she somehow knows me) to write an entry while logged into my account.
