politics question

A recent New York Times article mentioned in passing that part of Bush's agenda for the next two years is to normalize trade relations with Viet Nam. What's that about? I mean, why are they not normal in the first place? Are we still putting sanctions on them to punish them for having been invaded by us back in the day, or something? And why ( Read more... )

I heard on NPR about this mathmatician who solved a math problem
that connected topology and algebra.

Did you hear about this?

It reminded me of you of course...

I miss you! I'm done next week, we should talk on the phone sometime and
catch up.

Hmm, I think you must have made this comment during a brief period when livejournal wasn't notifying me about comments (my fault, not its fault), because I just noticed it. I think I know the math problem you're talking about. It was a completely huge deal, like if jesus came back or something, like mathematicians were dancing in the streets naked all over the world when that happened. In fact, after that whenever I told people at MIT that I wanted to study low-dimensional topology they would say, "Oh, really? But that problem is already solved. What else is there to do?" I was happy about it, though. I didn't have my eye on that particular prize.

I hope you are doing well, and yes, we should talk. My email address is tova@mit.edu. My cell phone number is the same as it was when I lived in santa cruz, do you still have it?
