This is beautiful. I love so many of your phrases - the paragraph where you said that 'no fish jumps willingly into a man’s hands to die', and that cutting his son's throat was 'as easy as slicing a roebuck open, as impossible as breathing under water'. The repetition of his son's strength as well, and that they were all seals. So much appreciation for this piece! ^^

Thank you! I'm so glad! Thanks for letting me know which sentences you like too!

I'm not particularly enthusiastic about writing sad, angsty things (IDK how I end up writing so many angsty fics), but this one I *had* to.

Angst is tricky like that. Upsetting, but so writable, lol.

This was so good! I loved to see the reasoning behind this action, to know how much it hurt Liathan to do it.

In front of him, the child stays still.
So strong is his son. Y_Y This kid breaks my heart.

His left hand brushes over the son’s neck and shoulder slowly, in form of farewell, of an apology, and of everything a father should say to a son. Brilliant!

Just so you get the picture, I'd like to quote every sentence. Yep.

It did seem a somewhat cheap twist in the movie, especially because there was no proper build-up to the scene, and at some crucial moments the camera was on Marcus and Esca instead of focusing on the Seal Prince.

With Tahar's acting it wouldn't be difficult at all to show this character as sympathetic (all the hints are already there). If only they gave him more space...

But the movie has a problem of pacing and exposition in several parts, as it tries to cover too many things in a short time, both in the sense of events and motifs.
It tries to be scenic and intimate, full of action and personal growth and clash of cultures and so on and so on, so I think they just couldn't do well on all fronts.
The movie is not long enough, if you want to develop them all well without drawing too much focus away from the main storyline. (Or everyone involved in the movie production would have to be more than a genius to pull it off.)

Erm, I'm really sorry for the wall of text.

I really liked this! It was interesting to see how you motivate him killing his son, because, man, was that ever one part of the movie that could use some explanation. Well done!

Seconded! That was a really odd movie moment but you have made a lot of sense of it here.

That was beautiful and heartbreaking, I love the understanding for Liathan you shown, he's a tragic character, really.

Thank you a lot!
I've always seen him as a tragic character too. He's not on the same side as Marcus and Esca, and he follows different rules (that we don't have to nowadays, thanks God), but he didn't seem inhuman to me.
Thanks!
