META: On Fic Length and Heightened Expectations

I know it's simply an artifact of a simpler time on the internet, but am I the only one who gets blindsided by fics that use the old system of fic-length measurement ( Read more... )

Got it in one. Though I've had it happen previously, so I didn't want to call anyone out or anything. But it did make me =( to get to the bottom of the page and realize, no, that was it, no continuation link or anything.

It wasn't quite as bad for me. As soon as the page loaded, I could tell that it wasn't long enough, so I quickly scrolled down to the bottom to make sure there wasn't a continuation link or anything. Then I just highlighted the page and used Word Count Plus to see how long the story was, so I knew going in (after the initial disappointment) what to expect.

Yeah, I noticed about the page length; I probably should have just checked, but it was one of those "I am reading this whilst also doing a million other things" fics that I had open in a tab for like, an entire day regardless of how long it was. :\ I mean, partially my fault, but still sad-making.
