Those are chemistry departments, that don't require an interview. But yes, that would have been something to consider.

I was not very prepared for the whole application process. I just picked a few schools in urban environments with pretty web sites.

Yes, that's the right answer. I would personally quibble that you should also check "K," since there might be an even number on the other side, but perhaps the question was phrased differently in the actual experiment.

Eh. Certainly it's important to make an impression, but often it is the best strategy to let the professors talk about how wonderful they are for the majority of the interview. Ask interesting questions. But only if the professors really are leading and volunteering content -- not if they're blathering because they need to fill dead air space.
