So far this summer I've read

American Gods, Neil Gaiman
Emma, Jane Austen
Anansi Boys, Neil Gaiman
and
Wicked: the Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, Gregory Maguire

From my reactions to these books, I've concluded...that I like happy stories.

Does that make me an airhead?

I actually liked American Gods better than Anansi Boys, because I did not like the first half of Anansi Boys as much as the second half. The first half seemed to be mostly People Picking on Charlie, which I found tiresome from perpetual empathetic discomfort. I suppose it's to simulate the embarrassment that Charlie is perpetually feeling...? I liked the happy ending of Anansi Boys, but I don't know if it makes up for the painful beginning, because I care about superficial things like that.

I very much like Neil Gaiman's writing style.

the sandman comics are decidedly more morbid and sad, but also very good reading. and his children's book, coraline, is absolutely creepy!
