thirty-three

Yesterday I went into the forest. I was going to wander around for the day since it was sunny and I intended to find a clear spot where I could look at the Sun, but a boy found me. He had a Pokémon with him- a Luxio, I think (it was Electric-type, I could tell). I felt the boy was surprised. Suddenly, he told his Luxio to attack me ( Read more... )

That seems to be perfectly normal, and yet you seem confused...

To defend yourself from humans trying to capture you is how many Pokemon react, as far as I can tell. There was not much more that could be done. If the boy was upset at you for performing by natural instinct...

Hn.

[He just leaves it at that. He's not sure if he can explain it at all.]

Maybe he had a bad experience. I did not intend to hurt anybody, though.

I see. You only meant to protect yourself. You did not want to harm, but only to ensure your own safety. There is no shame in that.

Do you think this boy is from the school?

I've never seen him before. He had messy red hair and was only a bit taller than I was as a Solrock. He wore a hat.

Oh, I heard about how some guys catch Pokemon out there...

[Hnn, not sure how to feel...]

Are you okay?

Yes...

Although it is important to understand the difference between true conflict and what the young man did. What he acted out of was not violence, but the sociatial construct of the Pokémon League. It is a...sports event, of sorts. He meant no malice, although he was wrong to believe that you would understand that.

I understood. He wanted to capture me. Whether he did or did not, that would be revealed to me in short time. His Luxio was trying to hurt me, so I responded and defeated it.

I just don't understand why he cried, or why he was afraid.

Emotions are...random, in that sense. He ought to have expected that you would retaliate.

Perhaps he underestimated me and was shocked at the realization that I was stronger than he thought. It's beginning to make sense to me.

Really? That's what I should do?

How else is he gonna learn? Seems to me like far too many trainers go around thinkin' Pokemon are here entirely for their convenience. A little reminder just who they're messin' with ought to do him some good.

Alright. I will always relentlessly defeat my opponents. That sounds like what students from this school should do, anyways.
