Not Enough Time...

Mar 10, 2011 00:00

I just spent half an hour doing two sink loads of my roomie's dirty dishes that have been sitting for a week. I know she only lives here part time, but I do feel it's ridiculous that I do all the cleaning in the apartment when she helps create at least part of the mess while she's here. I'm too tired for much more of a rant than that, but grah ( Read more... )

Urgh, dishes. I feel your pain. I had a roommate once who made pretty significant messes and used a lot of dishes...that would then sit in the sink. I tried outlasting her once and cracked when the sink began to mold. If I didn't do it, there were two other diligent girls to help out, but the one roommate still managed to outpace us most days. It was embarrassing to have people over, it was so bad sometimes, despite our best efforts. I wish you luck and a magical army of talking Disney animals to do the cleaning.

I was attempting to outlast her this time and was curious to see how long it would take her (or even her fiance whose currently living with us for that matter) to crack. Instead, MORE dishes kept showing up. I cracked because the kitchen was starting to smell bad and I do worry about mold (ew!)... which is why I'll be taking out all of the garbage and recycling tomorrow that's been piling up and she hasn't taken care of. Sometimes being an adult sucks.

It did nothing to change my year of kitchen misery, but karmically, I sure did feel good to hear that this girl's roommates next year were such horrendous slobs, even she was offended. And lo, my job became hers, and it was disgusting, and she learned something from fighting whatever evolved in the sink. Short of Disney animals, I hope your roommate will one day be afflicted with bigger slobs.

Why is it that nice people like us always end up with the most disgusting kitchen slob roommates? My roommate this year managed to get our kitchen infested with moths (which, granted, can happen to the tidiest of people...but maggot-type caterpillars crawling out of your cabinet for months and you don't even think to clean it out?), and has coated literally every surface in the kitchen with a thick, sticky layer of oil and never once cleaned it up. The stove and microwave are barely usable most days! She also leaves piles of food and dishes (both clean and dirty) all over the counters.

Living with people like this has turned me into such an incredible neat freak in the kitchen, which I never thought I would be. SD and LA need to be magically closer together so we can live together in clean peace and kitchen harmony.
