What bothers me is that the scientific method worked here. Multiple studies showed that the single study was either faulty or a blip on the statistical radar. But people ran with the fear instead of with 40 some years of knowing that not inoculating your child puts them at risk for horrible diseases. (polio, anyone?)
Mostly I feel sorry for parents with kids who have autism. It's something that we don't have an answer for yet and I think alot of them can't stand not knowing, so they blindly latch onto whatever they can to take the 'blame' for the disease.
I'm surprised aide workers don't have a plan set up for that already. All you have to do is have two doses of vaccine in one thing, then take a dose yourself in front of the parents before you administer to the child. (Not that you can chemically sterilize people anyway! But still.) I have no idea if you can OD on polio vaccine though.
And for Christ's sake, they were attacking Red Crescent workers - who have nothing to do with America! I don't care if people are stupid - it's when their stupidity kills other people that I get pissed off.
I hate it when MDs and PhDs use their degrees for evil. It would be one thing if this guy was mistaken or stumbled on a coincidence, but this... man.
Re: the 14-child woman: while I do agree that this woman is an idiot for wanting fertility treatments after six kids, and that the doctor was probably motivated entirely by money with minimal concern for the woman or the existing children, I have to question whether we have the right to condemn her for wanting more children. I think it's within her rights, and the rights of the doctor who treated her.
But that doesn't make it right or socially responsible. I mostly worry about the kids.
Because they can make money off of it, or be "the one doctor who told the truth about vaccines!" Except not.
YO! If it helps, I've been wibbling about writing you as well. I sent you a money order for the hotel: did you get it? Were you able to cash it? If not, I can send an actual personal check now that I've found my checkbook.
Hi, my name is Amber and I can't reply to comments in a timely fashion.
Well, they need to STOP IT. Because highly impressionable people like me are tired of being yanked around.
YES, I GOT IT, DON'T SEND ME ANYMORE MONEY. I have been worried that you spent all your money on the trip to Otacon. I'm glad to see you pop up on LJ again! And maybe I will try to do something meaningful and actually write you a letter because I have some stationary that I bought nearly a year ago that I have yet to use.

In non-depressing news. I'm not entirely sure if this is real or not, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Speaking of polio and polio vaccinations, here's another example of how fearmongering kills. This also did not need to happen. AGH.
