[CHARACTER INFO]
CHARACTER NAME: Jomy Marcus Shin ; Soldier Shin.
FANDOM: Toward the Terra (2007 anime series).
CHRONOLOGY: Episode 11, after Tony's birth but before Sam is sent to their planet. Aka, Happy Nazca Times.
CLASS: Hero.
SUPERHERO NAME: Soldier Shin.
ALTER EGO: Jomy, psychic and idealistic derp.

BACKGROUND:
Humans have always been creatures filled with greed. Punishing their own planet with their industrial overload and slowly destroying nature, Terra (their name for what we know as Earth) reached a point where it could no longer be inhabited by those who had destroyed.

After realizing that this catastrophe could only be blamed on the carelessness of humanity, and in order to prevent it from repeating itself, Humans created the Super Domination system and the Grand Mother, an independent virtual conscience whose directives were to run the SD Program. It was decided that every human being would be created through artificial means and raised by foster parents. Any potentially negative situations or memories were erased when found convenient. These were only few of the very strict rules and regulations of an entire new society, living in various colonized planets throughout the universe.

When reaching the age of 14, every child is placed through the Maturity (or Adulthood) Test in order to be considered ready to begin the journey towards becoming an adult. What is kept from the knowledge of most of them, though, is the fact that this test is nothing more than a program created to block and erase the subject's memories (about their childhood, their parents, their hometown...) in order to have them detach from it all and step into the next level of society with greater ease and obedience. The youngsters are sent to Education Stations situated outside their planet's orbit, where they would continue living purely under the promise that they shall one day be worthy of returning to Terra, slowly being rebuilt and cleansed for their arrival.

The story begins theday before Jomy's 14th birthday when he wakes up from a bizarre and vertiginous dream, in which a man with white hair and red eyes speaks to a gentle woman with very long hair. Both talk about the 'Mu'; about a power that has been found, and about reaching their goal: finding Terra. Upon waking up, Jomy gets out of bed and takes part in his daily routine, telling his classmates about the strange dream. After saying goodbye to his friends at the end of the day, he prepares himself to leave his household for the Adulthood Exam that will follow.

Jomy leaves his parents; he is now considered an adult and must move onward with his life. Unsure of what to do, though, he decides to visit his favorite amusement park, even if just to remember his childhood. While there, he takes a look at a small zoo. There he finds a Weeping Mouse (considered an alien creature with mild psychic powers) being exhibited to the audience. The boy feels sorry for the creature. Suddenly, it speaks to him through telepathy. Confused and and disturbed, the boy decides to brush it off and continues with his visit to the amusement park.

Oblivious to the fact that he is being monitored, Jomy takes his turn on an individual ride when his mind is taken into the so called 'Maturity Test'. When a machine entitled 'Terras 5' attempts to erase Jomy's memories, he struggles against it - but his defenses don't seem to last very long. That is when the man from Jomy's dream appears in an astral projection, saving him from the Test as he tells the younger boy the truth about what is happening. When Jomy comes back to his senses, he finds himself surrounded by a police force that claims he has failed the Test - therefore must be disposed of. Jomy is saved by yet another man (Leo) and taken to the outside of Ataraxia's frontiers, where a very large spaceship is hidden under the clouds. During his time there, he is told all about the Mu - a human subspecies that was born with psionic powers and been chased down by those who could not accept their existence.

Jomy has supposedly been chosen by their leader - Soldier Blue - to be one of them. As expected, the boy rejects this idea, claiming that he is human, not a Mu, and blames his current predicament on them. Despite their efforts to persuade him, Jomy demands to be taken back home. Soldier Blue allows this - to Jomy's surprise - and orders Leo to take him back. Upon their return, Jomy finds that his parents have abandoned his home and left everything behind. After a series of events, Jomy and Leo are both captured, but the younger boy is rescued by Soldier Blue (who, being already of a very old age and having reached his end, collapses after sharing his past memories with the boy through telepathy) and manages to escape and return to the Shangri-La with military force on their back, having found the Shangri-La. Realizing there is no other choice, they fly the ship into space and begin their journey toward Terra.

Jomy has become the new leader of the Mu - Soldier Shin. Throughout the years, the weight of leadership is on the young boy's shoulders, forced to leave everything he knew behind and finding a new home. Hopeful and idealistic, Jomy goes against the Elder Mu's advice when he decides to try and contact humans through very strong telepathic messages, to no avail. The Soldier gives up when he feels the death of a young Mu far away in space, killed by humans when he tried to pursue Jomy's call.

During their travel through space, one of the Mu (Karina) brings up the topic of natural childbirth, and Jomy decides it will be their future. Shortly after that, they come across an abandoned human outpost planet called Silvester 7. Upon Jomy's decision and the Elders' approval, they Mu begin a new life there, renaming the planet 'Nazca'.

PERSONALITY:

Jomy has come a long way since the beginning of the series to this point - not only story wise, but in terms of personality. At first, Jomy is somewhat of a spoiled brat with a problematic attitude who has trouble accepting his true nature as a Mu. However, as the story progresses and he becomes their leader, Jomy gains a idealistic, hopeful and more mature personality, thriving to bring happiness to his comrades. He finds constantly torn between fulfilling the dream of the Elders and that of the younger ones, though. The latter look up to him as a mentor, a role he tries his best to fulfill, despite his lack of knowledge and experience; they also desire to create life in a new world they can call their own. The Elders refuse to give up on finding Terra.

During this timeframe, Jomy is kind, more reserved than before, a little conflicted, but happy and hopeful. He has a somewhat naive sense of right and wrong and tries his best to avoid violence as a whole. He genuinely believes he can make everything work.

Despite his physical appearance (and being close to 30 years of age), Jomy can be described as some sort of Peter Pan - he is even compared to this fairytale hero by Shiroe. He desires to be a responsible and generous leader, but his maturity never quite reaches that of the previous Soldier--it would be impossible to compare one to the other altogether. He has a nostalgic longing for his childhood, for the ease he felt in his younger years - an ease he wants to create in Nazca and pass onto the following generations of the Mu. This unconscious refusal to grow up may lead him to make rash decisions and/or be impulsive, only to later doubt or regret his actions. He will keep these feelings to himself, however. He believes that, as a leader, he mustn't show hesitation.

POWER:
(canon) Psionic Powers: Jomy is one of the only two Type Blue Mu - meaning not only he possesses all their psionic powers, but the level of his abilities place him at a much higher rank. His body, unlike every other Mu's, does not possess any deficiencies. His abilities grant him: telepathy, telekinesis, flight, teleportation, creation of barriers, concentrating energy into his hands and propelling it, empathy, creating illusions, seeing flashes of a person's memory by physical contact or touching personal objects, interfering with and controlling technology, etc.
