I guess if you really need the boost in power go for it. I'm using a dual centrino laptop and so far it's been trucking along pretty well. The only thing with laptops though, is their scary, short hard drive life, at least in my experience, but then mine's been dropped a few times :P But they are easily fixable, just stick it in the freezer :) (not even kidding lol). I use an IBM thinkpad R60 so I can't say how the Dell will stack up, but I know on mine I can play UT04 on the battery and it lasts for over 3 hours under the stress. Doesn't have souped up memory or graphics card though.
BTW, saw your post on Dave's LJ, noticed you live in the SSM on the Canadian side. I'm from the UP :) *waves*
yeah I spent the money on the laptop. I'm sitting infront of it right now just typing away. It was definatly worth it I think, i've been playing games on it and it runs beautifully with the ATI X-1400 256MB and ATI has cleaned up there drivers a little bit. Hopefully with the merger with AMD they will really clean things up. But its a good system for a Dell. First laptop so I wanted to atleast get something decent and this has so far done well.
I added ya to my friends list its all cool. Yeah I might go down this weekend to Dave's place to hang out for the day. Never driven over the border.
