From the dark of his own mind, Oceanglide watched his brothers and saw the effects of his bargain. The twists and kinks in the way they healed. The viciousness with which they lashed out to salve their own minds. He ached, afraid he’d taken something that could never be remade. And in his weaker moments he wondered if what he’d saved was worth the price.
Empathy for freedom. A soul for a soul. No. A soul for the right to have one.
Dark waters to ford alone. But what could he ever tell them? That he thought they were broken beyond repair? For following where he urged them? They might have been furious, upset, uncomprehending. Perhaps they would have tried to cheer him up.
No apology would have been more than an insult. And no end could ever be worth that explanation. So Oceanglide never tried.

I just wanted to add that I really enjoyed our thread in Dear Multiverse. Who knew that Adia would feel so understood by a scary robot. :) I hope they get to meet in person sometime.
