The Perfect Fit

Second chances were very hard to come by, and Jiro Fujimori was no fool. He knew better than to take a good thing for granted by now, and he was not about to make the same mistake twice when it came to the love of his life: Yuri Aso.

It was because of this reasoning that he had yet to bring up the subject of marriage. The last time he’d broached the subject…he’d pushed things too quickly and everything had backfired horribly.

Anyway, he was content to take things slowly. There was no reason to rush anyway: he and Yuri were enjoying their time together just fine as they were.

So naturally, he couldn’t help being surprised when, while they were out on a walk one day after a lunch date, Yuri stopped by the window of a bridal shop.

Jiro watched her curiously as she stared at the beautiful gown on display, a wistful expression crossing her lovely features. “Yuri?”

Her lips curved into a slightly sad smile. “It’s beautiful isn’t it?” she gestured at the dress.

Yes, but not nearly as beautiful as you. He thought, but decided on a simple nod as his answer, not exactly sure where this was going.

Yuri sighed. “ Do you ever wonder…what our wedding would have been like if I’d said yes the first time?” she glanced over at him, the smile still tinged with melancholy making his heart sink slowly. “If things hadn’t gotten so complicated?”

He moved closer, taking her hand in his and lacing their fingers together. “Of course I have…I can’t imagine a life without you, you know? But I thought you didn’t want to think about marriage again after everything that happened with Otoya?”

Yuri turned, took his other hand and looked him directly in the eyes. “Every girl dreams about getting married, Jiro…”

He arched an eyebrow, drawing her into his arms and leaning towards her. “You’re not every girl,” he touched his forehead to hers.

The tiny bit of sadness in her eyes died and she smiled as she nuzzled against him. “No I’m not. I’m your girl.”

Jiro chuckled. “That you are…” he closed the distance between them and kissed her lightly. “Does this mean you eventually do want to get married, by the way?”

She giggled. “Eventually, yes.”

He sighed, nuzzling affectionately at her. “But not right away?”

Yuri shook her head. “Let’s face it, if we got married now, we’d end up getting a certificate and not having a ceremony at all with how busy our lives are…I want us to have the wedding we both dream of, and if that means waiting…then I’m okay with it. Are you?”

Jiro smiled and framed her face between his hands. “As far as I’m concerned, you’re more than worth waiting for,” he leaned in and kissed her again, more passionately this time. “So I’m in no hurry.”

She sighed happily and curled further into his embrace. “Even when I’m staring at wedding dresses?”

“Well like you said, it’s every girl’s dream…” he glanced at the dress in the window and then back at her, his eyes lighting up as he had a brilliant idea. “Say…why don’t you try it on?”

Yuri looked at Jiro in surprise. “What?”

“Come on,” he smiled in the way that made her insides flutter and began to guide her inside the shop. “I want to see how it looks on you.”

Nodding wordlessly, Yuri clutched to his hand and allowed him to escort her inside.

A man left to his own devices in a bridal store was probably an amusing thing to watch; Jiro thought as he wandered around while waiting for Yuri to try on the dress. Men surrounded by such feminine things…it was bound to lead to trouble. He could only imagine what would happen if someone like Otoya were let loose in there and shuddered.

He eyed the various gowns, fingered the satin ribbons and lace, privately thinking about how beautiful his love was going to look when she emerged from the dressing room. He kept a calm façade but inwardly he was leaping for joy at being able to see his beloved Yuri in a wedding dress, even if it was just for the fun of it. Actually…that made it better. She wasn’t seriously choosing a gown, just trying on something she liked; it was a more natural process, something that suited her better.

And…though he knew there was no rush involved, he couldn’t help smiling at the fact that she did eventually want to marry him. She wasn’t thinking of anyone else, and that in itself made his heart soar. That meant Yuri was his. Forever. Exactly what he’d wanted in the first place.

Reaching into his jacket pocket, Jiro fingered the elegant diamond engagement band that he carried around with him. It was a different kind than the one he’d given her before: simpler, but in his eyes more beautiful. It was something he instinctively knew she’d appreciate when he saw it and bought it on a whim. Now he wondered if maybe he should just go ahead and give it to her.

Taking the ring out, he held it up, watching as the diamond caught the light and began to sparkle. He studied it for a moment, imagining her expression when he presented it to her, and what it would look like on her finger. Carefully, he put it away, deciding he would wait till the perfect moment, and as he did, he looked over and noticed a large display of veils illuminated nearby.

The one at the very front caught his eye first. It was very beautiful: made of pure white lace and adorned with delicate water lilies and white satin ribbons. He could picture Yuri wearing it with the gown she was trying on, walking up an aisle towards him, smiling brightly. The fact that the flowers were water lilies couldn’t have been more appropriate either as Yuri’s name meant “lily.” There was no doubt: the veil was perfect.

Picking it up carefully, he stroked over the fabric, admiring how soft it felt beneath his fingertips, only to be distracted when he heard a soft “ahem” and glanced over to see Yuri emerging from the dressing room area.

Immediately it felt hard to breathe, and he nearly dropped the veil he was holding as he stared in amazement at the woman before him.

She bit down on her lower lip and shyly bowed her head before smoothing over the skirt and looking back at him. “What do you think?”

He thought…that she couldn’t have looked more beautiful than at that moment.

It was almost as if she’d stepped out of a fairy tale. The gown was made of pure white silk, and clung to her statuesque figure nicely. The bodice was corset style, possessing silver lace accents along the top, and it laced up in the back with matching ribbon. The skirt flowed around her like a waterfall, and there was a short silk train in the back. As she moved towards him, the gown made a soft swishing sound.

Jiro managed to find his voice after a long moment of staring. “You…you look perfect,”

His breathless answer was enough to make her blush and glance down. “Really?”

“Really…all you need is…” still in a bit of a trance, Jiro moved forward and placed the veil he was holding on top of her head reverently. He smiled at the beautiful picture she made with it on. “There. Now you’re really perfect.”

Her color deepened. “I feel like a princess.”

“You look more like a Queen,” he whispered, cupping her chin and tilting her face towards his.

“A Queen….I like that,” she smiled dreamily. “Would that make you my King?”

He chuckled. “Technically, I am a Crown Prince, so yes…”

She gasped softly when his lips brushed in a feather light caress against hers. “Royalty…I should have known. You’ve always had a very regal bearing.”

Another chuckle, deeper and more shiver inducing, escaped the wolf. “I had a good up-bringing,” and then, before another word could be said, he claimed her mouth in a tender kiss.

They embraced lovingly, Yuri’s fingers tangling in Jiro’s perpetually tousled hair and yanking him further against her as the kiss deepened, becoming something infinitely more passionate. His arms draped over her waist, tugging her closer, Yuri moaning quietly when Jiro nipped playfully at her mouth.

Finally, he pulled back to give her some air, and she noticed his eyes had shifted from dark brown to a brilliant gold that shimmered romantically at her, causing a pleasant tingle to shoot up her spine.

“I love you,” he murmured, nudging her nose with his. “So much…”

“I know,” she nuzzled back at him in a manner that was very Wolfen and it made his heart skip a beat.

He reached into his pocket again. “I know I said I wasn’t in a rush but….well when a Wolfen chooses a mate,” he pulled out the ring and showed it to her. “That’s it. They’re the only one they could ever want…”

Yuri gasped as she stared at the ring, looking over at Jiro with wide eyes.

He smiled warmly. “The only woman I could ever want is you, Yuri Aso. It doesn’t have to be right away but…will you marry me?”

She continued to stare at him, unable to form words, until slowly, she nodded and held out her hand.

“I take it that’s a yes,” he teased.

“Yes. Yes of course,” she finally managed, tears springing to her eyes. “I’ll marry you,” and then she chuckled. “Easy question.”

Beaming in her direction, Jiro slid the ring onto her finger and then kissed her knuckles sweetly. “Perfect answer.”

She giggled at this and drew him into her arms for a proper kiss.

They embraced happily and then, after pulling away, Yuri smirked. “Well…seeing as I’ve already picked out a dress and a veil…maybe we should start planning this wedding thing sooner than we thought.”

Jiro laughed. “Whatever you want…as long as you want me.”

Yuri grinned. “What I want…is a happily ever after with you. Think you can manage?”

His grin matched hers. “Oh, I think I’m up for the challenge.”
