This season brought many commissions: most paintings, some sculptures, One bookmaking project that was unexpected. I don't have a picture of the book yet, but I have been handmaking books for a while now and this one turned out very lovely. 2 signatures sewn into spine, about 42 cream colored pages in whole; a 60ply cover that inlaid the client's ( Read more... )

Terri's portrait turned out really nice! The hem of the dress with the lace peeking out and the tights really make it pop. I also like how your signature is out in the white space so everyone can see it--none of this 'hugging the lines' type of signatures (like I do, haha).

Erika's dad is also good. When I was over at your house that night it looked like a photograph from where I was sitting on the couch. I know he'll love it!

The mixed media ones are wonderful. I hope you experiment with those some more. I remember my mom buying this stuff that sucks all the juices out of the flowers and preserves them very nicely. It kind of looked like little beads... I can't remember the name of it!! But you could try to find something like that because it really preserves the colors of the plants you're preserving.

Yay! I'm glad you like it. It's so funny you mention the signature, because I didn't have time to sign it in real life. I have my name on the back, but not front. That is where I would've put it though, had I had more time [to sign it and photograph it.] The artist, George Petty, whose style is referenced usually signed his name wherever was aesthetically pleasing to the design.

Is it like a silica gel? I'll look things up. I also read about glycerin preserving color. This spring I'm going to pick tons of flora!! >:D Let's go into the forests like Sleeping Beauty, and pick the most beautiful wildflowers! The seeds sleeping in the ground now have no idea their destiny to be a memento mori.
