 I would never put money between my friends. And I don't say that because I'm poor (because I am, plain and simple.

I can't do anything but promise to pay people back. And to pay it forward. I have $5 to my name and that's with saving it for almost a week now.

I once had a friend/former roommate who lost his job so I covered his bills for 3 months and he owed me ~$2000. I did not ask for a penny in return until he was employed and had a chance to get ahead on his "real" bills. After six months of employment he had not made a single effort to pay me back, and when I mentioned it he said he'd get around to it. I severed him from my life after that, but I learned a valuable lesson:

Never lend money to friends expecting to be paid back.

or the correlary: If you never want to hear from someone again, lend them money

This particular problem is a) mostly my fault but mostly b) due to bad timing, poor planning and incredibly bad management ( ... )
