So a friend was just asking me what are my favourite TV show/book/movies of the year (based on my compilation post here), and thought I'd post my response as an entry:

Favourite TV showI'd have to say my favourite TV show that I've watched this year was definitely Battlestar Gallactica (I do feel like I missed out on the fandom, boo -- but it was ( Read more... )

Hmm. TV shows would be Fringe and Being Human, the BBC version...though the US version is nice, too.

Movies - Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Let the Right One In, both of them in Swedish.

I just finished Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential. It's great if you like his style of wit.

Cool! I haven't seen Fringe yet, but I've heard good things. I started watching the US version of Being Human but then got caught up in other things. I really enjoyed it. And I loved the TV show Kitchen Confidential (well, the pilot anyway, which is all that got made, I think) -- I'd probably like the book, too. Glad to hear it's good! I'll keep an eye out for it.

Kitchen Confidential actually got a whole season, consisting of thirteen episodes. It was good, but nothing great.

Ahh, I'd forgotten that. I must have only seen the pilot. Thanks!

Let's see...
Favorite TV Show: Probably Stargate Universe, although Game of Thrones is probably my favorite of currently running (Doctor Who being on a bit of a weak season so far, but it could change).
Favorite Book: Haven't read any books that really blew me away, so I guess it's a toss up between Wireless, a book of short stories by Charles Stross, and The Last Colony, book 3 of a series by John Scalzi
Favorite Movie: Haven't seen any of this year's.

Oooh, I JUST read Old Man's War last week and I loved it! I'm glad the rest of the series is just as good!

What is Stargate Universe? I've heard of Stargate, but not that iteration.

I didn't like Jennifer's Body at all, but somehow I think it would make the perfect Broadway musical in the vein of Reefer Madness or Little Shop of Horrors.

I will try to name only recent stuff...

Book: "This Is A Book" by Demetri Martin. It's smart, clever and hilarious.

TV show: The US remake of "Shameless" and the third season of "Parks and Recreation".

Movie: "Rabbit Hole", "Kaboom" and Life in a Day.

I agree with you about the musical! It was definitely cheesy and "off" in a lot of ways.

I just finished watching Parks & Rec and I loved it! I'll try to check out Shameless and This is a Book - they sound intriguing! Life in a Day looks really interesting as well. Thanks for the link to the trailer!

I rarely watch movies, so will skip that one. :D Favorite tv show is probably Parks & Rec or Game of Thrones. Oh! And Downton Abbey. That one was great.

As for books, Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins or Troubled Waters by Sharon Shinn! Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta was also really good.

I have just watched all of Parks & Rec and I love it!! Hilarious. I really need to check out Game of Thrones too. Have you read the books?

I just finished the books last week! I'm not as hooked on them as most seem to be, but they're really interesting.

(No worries!)
