Had to go out and buy a new keyboard and mouse. It's getting frustrating, since everything is going wireless, and quite frankly, I don't like spending money on batteries, much less being interrupted by the sudden loss of either device because said batteries eek'd out their last ounce of energy. Not to mention, everything is starting to go toward ( Read more... )

Are you reading the first Kushiel series or the second one? The first centers around Phaedra and Josclin. (however it's spelled.)

Just finished the first; just starting the second.

I would love your opinion on the second series. I think it's quite different but somehow enjoyable. I'm not sure of what others think.

I just finished the first one, and while I have to say the beginning was a little rough... very adult perspectives and language from what was supposed to be a prepubescent boy, as he grew older and the story began to shape itself around him, I feel the author did well.

I love how she breathes so much life into even her tertiary characters, and makes doing so seem effortless. As a fan of the human condition in all its myriad colors, Carey's books are a joy to read. I look forward to continuing the series.

Hmm, I read the first few books and was also not impressed. You sure it gets better? It seemed like it was sliding downhill when I left it.

Also, the covers annoyed the stew out of me. Either no one gave the artist a copy of the draft, or he didn't care. HOW MANY TIMES does the book have to mention the main character has curly hair for her to actually be depicted as curly-headed on the cover??

I've come to the conclusion that John Jude Palencar doesn't actually read the books he's accepted a contract to design covers for.

I loathed my wireless mouse and happily went back to the clunky old cord to the back of the computer kind. Why does everything have to be improved on? Some things just work.

I agree, not all "improvements" are. *smiles*

I envy your trip to Spain, though I won't argue that it is certainly well deserved. I hope that it comes true and that the two of you have a lovely time.

I need to procure a passport, myself.

I'm not certain it's well-deserved, but the trip would definitely be welcome. Thank you.

I guess it is really no surprise I love the Kushiel series. So I'm glad you picked it back up. I hate to sound, I guess arogant is the word, but I tend to think people who don't like them...don't ge them.

Ahhh Spain, yet nother country I've never visited and always wanted to, you (grumble grumble).

Different people enjoy different styles of writing. I abhor Steven King novels, but he is popular, the world over. Takes all kinds.
