Don't use "Arm and Hammer"

So, I'm in the market for a new toothpaste. I've used Arm and Hammer for years, but recently they changed their formula and have included some interesting things: things that have made the last two weeks "interesting" in the Chinese sense of the word. I'm not certain what it says when the least troubling issue has been some bleeding from my ( Read more... )

Is it possible that that's just one contaminated batch rather than a formula change?

They did change their formula, and there are others who have had similar experiences as my own. Unfortunately, some of whom weren't as quick on determining the cause and spent thousands of dollars on testing thinking there was something wrong with them (rather than something they had been using).

One ingredient in particular is used in products like OxiClean and deck cleaner, is used as an algeacide and fungicide, but in no other potential ingestibles such as toothpaste except in Arm and Hammer. Although animal studies demonstrated brain, nervous system, respiratory, and behavioral changes, and was flagged for suspected persistence, the company that manufactures the toothpaste has disregarded reports of sporadic medical issues as allergic responses. I don't suffer from allergies, and while certain symptoms I developed are similar/shared with an allergy response, several are not, however all of which can be attributed to chemical toxicity.

At some point in the 90s, I couldn't use Crest anymore for similar reasons...And recently started having trouble with Colgate total pastes. I've been wary of this because I tend have low zinc or iron at times and that can contribute to chapped lips, as can a lack of certain B vitamins.
Neither of these deficiencies affect your sinuses so adversly, AFAIK...

Natural Toothpasts can be a pricier than those made by the corporate chemical companies, but if you value your health, I believe it's worth spending a little more on the ounce of prevention.

I like Tom's of Maine, which you can get with or without floride. Not all varieties are available in some areas.

For personal care products, I like Burt's Bees. They just started making toothpaste, and I have a sample I haven't tried yet, so I can't comment on that.

I can tell you that I am very happy with manny of their products and their mail order service.

I hope this helps.
I also hope you feel better soon. :-)

I picked up a tube of Tom's brand to replace the A&H prior to posting this. It's certainly not pleasant, as far as taste goes, but it isn't burning my sinus cavities away. Thanks for the input and well wishes. =)
