Frog in a bucket. My new specialty.

Jan 07, 2008 21:42

Was rinsing out the kitchen bin this evening (don't ask) when I noticed something moving in the water bucket near the hot water tank's drip-off pipe. A lively something. Something wriggley and leggity.

I live in hope that I'll one day find frog spawn and tadpoles in my buckets (but... there's nothing for them to eat in there!).

I'm frankly quite jealous of the frog - wish *I* was able to go for an impromptu swim in a bucket of cool clear water!! BListeringly humid summer Down Under, and it's not even peak summer yet.

Better name it something gender neutral. Just in case it decides to spontaneously change its sex. Hawthorne is great for frogs! Or came toad popping along Lytton road after it rains... Ah, memories.

Lytton Rd, eh...? *evilgrin*

I'm another frog lover. My mum used to help us breed green tree frogs using her green house as their starting point in life, then migrating them to various neighbours/friends ponds/creeks when they grew bigger.

She also taught us to kill every single living cane toad we can across declaring that they ate our little frogs for lunch.
You've never seen a 10 year old more hell-bent on the war against cane toads.

A green tree frog scared the CRAP out of me when I was 10: went to get the toaster oven out one chilly autumn morning for some melty cheese on toast for brekkie when I saw this googly eyed GREEN THING the size of my face looking right back at me!!

I shrieked and dropped the toaster and ran away crying. Dad took it outside (with toaster; it really really liked that toaster for some reason) and 10 minutes later I was outside staring at it in fascination.

Beautiful creatures.

Is Melbourne/VIC too cold for them?
