It does get better. Books on grief helped me a lot after I lost Dad, then Mom. Just get thyself to your local library and see what they've got. I'd suggest group grief counseling, but I know that's not your speed--wasn't mine, either. Something to work on with your individual therapist, though--I did TONS of grief work with mine. It helped immensely.

Depression tells you that there is no hope and nothing will improve, but depression lies. Things will get better.
