Um. I didn't mean to disappear off the face of the Earth livejournal so completely, but life got a bit hectic since January. *hugs back*

I missed you too, but that is really only my fault... Sometimes it feels as if I'm missing my life.

Re. meta... I'm very, very flattered, but it might still take a while. (Although on the other hand at this point I'm at least pretty sure it will get done...)

True story about "Love and Monsters": when my son was about 5-6, he absolutely loved the episode--but only from when Victor Kennedy reveals he's the Absorbaloff and absorbs Ursula. I don't know how many times he replayed that part. (He couldn't have cared less about the rest of the episode.)

RTD got lots of grief for the Absorbaloff, but the monster was the winning design from a Blue Peter fan contest, so I'm willing to cut a lot of slack. You're right about the episode though; I think it was one of the best episodes he wrote. To me it's a clear meta-commentary about fandom and obsession, and about what happens on the home front for those left behind.

A club of two, then... ;)

I'm not particularly bothered by the Absorbaloff either, it's just that for me he breaks the mood a little bit. But I can absolutely see how he would appeal to children a lot more than the rest of the episode...
