Gah, so tired...but I can't fall asleep. I don't know why this is. I didn't nap today or anything. Chicago has quite a few youth hostels. They usually get booked fairly early, but if you make reservations a couple months out you should be able to get in. Also, taking the Amtrak is a bit cheaper than driving, as long as you get your tickets early, because they'll get more expensive the longer you wait. Once you're in Chicago you don't need a car. The L and the subway can get you anywhere you need to be at $2/ride.
