These are the ones we got earlier this month for our trip to Vegas.

They look Minoan to us. Had to get them 'cause we jump bulls n' shit. Fray likes his because its super heavy. My dad thought they were so way cooler than anything he has ever seen.

I have forgotten to take mine off when I went outside to pull weeds and punched the lava rocks several times making noises that made me cringe, no scratches. My old gold ring was scratched in the first 2 weeks. Only problem is that the ones we wanted only go down to size 7, so I wear it on my middle finger. It gives me super bird strength.

Oh and the company is in LA.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohs_scale_of_mineral_hardness#Intermediate_hardness

This is a scale of which materials are harder than others. Gold (Au) falls into the 2.5-3 range. Lava rocks usually fall in the 6-7 mohs range, and tungsten carbide is rated at a 9. Higher numbers can scratch materials of lower numbers, but not vice-versa. That's why gold gets scratched the hell up quickly, and your current ring brushes against lava rock without getting marked.

Just make sure the ring isn't subjected to extreme forces, like getting hit with a hammer or squeezed in a vice. Whereas gold will bend, and can be bent back, tungsten carbide will crack and break into pieces. And unless you've got a torch that can hit 5200 °F you wont be repairing it easily.

Um yeah. I've been aware of the Mohs scale for many decades. You mentioned tungsten carbide, I shared.

I only just learned about it these last couple months. Thanks for sharing! That's a damn cool ring. Think I'll probably go for a plain, non-colored, beveled edge style.

Only rings I'm seeing online for "titanium carbide" are fishing rod rings. Let me know if you find a jeweler who can do this. I'm thinking it's going to be pretty hard to find.

Yeah, I'm guessing the substance just isn't widely produced, so doesn't have a lot of commercial availability.
