We said goodbye, and then I pulled out my pistol and shot him. Watching him spin in slow motion to settle face down on the ground, with little whisps of dust floating up around his body was the changing point of my day.

Sounds very much like the beginning to an anime story about a detective. (Who of course would be something like a vampire or the like since anime could never have something as normal as JUST a detective)

I'm sure you weren't meaning for it to sound like that, but it did.
