Character(s): Ilyana Naismith and Nei'ess de Magens
Content: Ana takes a look around the library
Setting: Library
Warnings: None
Ana didn't expect her brother to be back for some time, as it wasn't exactly a quick jaunt in either direction, but that didn't stop the boredom from setting in. Of course it could have been hunger that was driving the restlessness just as much, but either way it made her realize just how much she'd come to rely on modern technology in her life. Too quiet? Turn on a radio, a CD player or a hand held MP3 player. Bored? Fire up a computer and fiddle around on the internet, or start up a video game with friends. Hungry? Hop on down to the cafe beneath the dorms for a quick bite of something microwavable.
There was none of that there, in that red, red place, and the fact that she was stuck waiting for some one just made the invisible minutes tick by even slower. As she'd stated before, fixing her mobile and changing her clothes had only killed a bit of time, and reading the text, while highly informative, was beginning to give her a headache in that dim lighting, so in the end she had to give up and simply sit against the wall, watching Nei'ess manage the whole reading thing far better than she'd been doing.
"Augh!" she finally cried out, throwing her hands in the air and standing again. When the younger boy turned an odd glance to her, she sighed and slumped her shoulders, "Sorry, I'm not used to doing...well...nothing. I think I'm just going to wander around the library and...I'unno, pretend I'm not here or something."
Odd way of putting it, but it was the only way she could find to describe how she felt right then. The more she let herself think about all the things that weren't there, the more homesick she became.
A hesitant fidget, and she walked off, going in random directions up and down isles that were accessible and not blocked by broken shelves or piles of books, occasionally reappearing only to vanish again. Eventually she got further away and around the small bend in the building, finding what was probably the main doors of the building facing another large street and a wide half-oval shaped desk that had probably belonged to the library aides at one point.
Well its obvious this place is deserted. I suppose I won't feel too guilty looting the place.
Only a single office chair, dusty and squeaky, stood at the area, though remnants of a few others were scattered along the dirty floor. debris littered floor. She dropped in to it and pushed it up to the main area of the desk, a low shelf stretching all the way around with only low divider walls to separate the work spaces. A few broken and falling apart personal items still survived, mainly coffee mugs with broken handles and faded words, but a trinket here or there. The drawers, however, were disappointingly empty, and the small-screened computer terminals that had obviously just been there for accessing the library's database didn't react to any button presses. Only one drawer still contained something, and it was the only item that seemed even remotely interesting.
It was a journal, or at least that's what Ana concluded upon further inspection. At first it seemed like a completely plain spiral bound notebook, like the kind of things Ana herself used at college for taking notes, but opening beyond crackling cover revealed a long, flowing script that was far too neat and detailed to be just some simple note taking or documentation.
"Hm..." she grunted, flipping a few pages and skimming the entries before standing and wandering back to the other end of the building.
"Hey, Nei'ess, check this out," she said, flopping back in to her original spot against the wall, "Its some one's journal. It was in a desk up front."
