She sat up and opened her eyes. She looked around herself at the piles of dusty books and broken shelves. She looked down at herself and found a small, slick box sitting on her lap. Though she didn’t know this, it’s silver, glitter finish perfectly matched her eyes. She picked it up in her small, thin hands and flipped it over. It had weight to it, although wasn’t heavy; about the weight of a book, though she didn’t know that either.
‘Hello,’ she said to it.
It did not answer.
‘What’s your name?’
It still did not answer.
She tilted her head and then looked around herself again at the other things in the room. Names were important, she was sure, so it stood to reason that she would need one.
‘Simera,’ she said out loud. She liked the sound and so she decided to keep it.
