He'd gone to the courtyard. Rather, he'd tried. But at the entrance from the library's foyer, he'd stopped and watched, looking out at the now-empty area. There was food and fire... and water for washing. Sheer force of will kept his feet going, carrying him only to bend for a handful of jerky.
Chewing on one, he didn't wait, shuffling his way back to do as he had wanted in the first place: sleep.
He'd forgotten about the conversation still happening, and backed around the wall once more, out of sight and away from any more questions. He heard the echoes of speech slip into silence and kept out of sight until he was certain he was alone once more. He finished a second piece of meat and slipped back inside.
Both Tyr and Rory were gone, the foyer seeming so large, and the staircase so high. And yet... something drew him from his place at the courtyard entrance toward the stairs and beneath them, once more to the dim basement and the tunnel therein. It wasn't confirmation of its contents or end that mystified him, but the dark, the claustrophobic nearness of the walls and thick, dry air that pulled at his mind.
A tunnel through the fog of Solluna... maybe a tunnel with a light at the end that was actually home. Where nothing had happened, where people didn't die and he was safe with his family, with Roy. Where the sun wasn't red and the sea didn't boil, and proper trees lined proper streets, overlooked by proper buildings.
Without realizing, tears had welled, blurring his vision, and as he blinked, they skated down his face. Without knowing, his feet carried him once again forward to the dark, nothing more than a hindrance and one that could easily sway under the alchemical plasma still bottled in his light.
