Used to the long run, and his lope more that of a wolf than a leopard, Zeke breathed through his nose roughly as he slowed, then finally stopped.

He could hear, just then, the sounds of people, though they were thankfully still a distance away. He'd been too absorbed in escape to realize that he'd nearly run into another situation that may or may not have become... bad.

He didn't even notice that there was someone else nearby until the shuffle of movement caught his attention. Immediately, he ducked low and backed a few steps away, just to give himself more ground and more time. Still, though, his curiosity had been piqued, especially with the strange people and stranger reactions he'd been coming across lately. He managed to control his flight response, waiting in silence to see what would happen, and just who the newest stranger would turn out to be. And if they wanted a fight... well. Zeke may get lucky this time.

He could hear Lessa shifting, could hear her sit up where she lay by his feet. Could almost see the way her ears perked forward in curiosity. Peeking his eyes open, Zeek glanced over at the dog, then in the direction she was looking, dropping a hand as he turned.

There was someone there. A quiet someone with ears and a tail much like Linex, but a someone he didn't recognize.

"Mn, hello." Then, almost more to himself than anything, "I don't think I've met you yet..."

Even after several of the same greeting, he never did stop being surprised. His ears flattened again, and he backed away yet again, ducking even further and tilting his head down like he wanted to hide.

He wasn't very thrilled with the thought of meeting anyone else, despite first appearances and overall apathy. Maybe it was better to keep away in this place as well, hidden in what little shadow he could find. He could leave, and it would be better that way.

"Not much of a people person, are you...?" He was quiet for a moment, just watching the crouched figure. "Well, I'd at least like to ask your name before you run off..." A faint, dry, coppery scent drifted to him, and his gaze focused a little more clearly.

Zeek shifted to get more comfortable, still leaning heavily on his hand, and he absently looked over the other person, wondering if he was injured.

It wasn't only the person- not a human, not with that tail- he was wary of, but the animal at his side. Feral creatures, domesticated ones, it didn't matter. All posed a threat, and this one looked fit. Idly, he wondered if she had all her teeth.

He backed further away, keeping his movements slow so as not to draw any more attention from the dog. One hand subconsciously found its way to his side, curled across his abdomen. It didn't help, really, but it was a comfort at least, some protection against more injury. Those ribs were almost healed anyway. It was the gashes that needed looking at, but they were crusted over in old blood and thin, discolored scabs; they'd be fine.

He was so preoccupied that he only caught the last part of the other's words, not that it made a difference. He was far from giving his name out to complete strangers, mod or no mod. Keeping his silence, he hoped he could just get out of sight before someone else showed up.
