Jim Jeffries is a Cunt

Dec 31, 2011 11:52

Last night, my friend Jennifer kindly provided an excuse for me to leave the house and took me to a comedy show administered by offensive mastermind Jim Jeffries at The Grove in Anaheim. Jim uses the word "cunt" a lot. I don't care about what words people use, but I don't like hearing the same thing over and over. However, he feels that Americans ( Read more... )

Maybe I'm being way too subtle or something. This was supposed to be a more or less entirely positive review that would make people want to go and see his show. It sounds as though you didn't make it past the title, which is a specific facetious reference to a long, long piece his does in-show about the word "cunt". There's another layer to that allusion, but sometimes I like to leave things for the reader to work out, like setting little land mines in their minds. Either they go off or they don't.

People can't read. Oh well.

When someone who normally is a bit volatile or offends easily, hears or reads a conflicting viewpoint with their own, their brain releases a hormone (adrenaline in part, but also another that I cannot immediately recall), which turns off their higher thought processes rendering them unable to fully comprehend what comes next. Like when you are having a conversation about, let's say, your favorite book, and the other party says, "I read it at your suggestion yesterday... It was complete bullshit ( ... )

Hey Kate. I guess it's easy to spin people into "defence" mode, even if there's no need for it. Although, the worst thing I said about Jim Jeffries in the opening paragraph was that I disagreed with him when he said (facetiously) that people should use the word "cunt" more often, a disagreement which I had hoped would be ironically set off by the title. The only other thing I said about him was that he's a "mastermind", which is a positive thing.

In other words, it's not that the reviewer didn't read the entire article, it's that he must have given up half way through the first sentence.

I am the heckler who fought him for calling me a cunt after the opening act in Anaheim… I didn't mean to be rude to him, I absolutely (used to) love his comedy. It just got out of hand, and I would maybe do things differently now if I could. I didn't tell him "you suck", I wasn't trying to be offensive, I was acting defensively. I should have just sat quietly and kept my lips shut, and told my friend to shut up, too. I should have let him have his time, and I didn't. I would buy him ten beers now if I could to say that I'm sorry.

I don't think you were being offensive. You can't "offend" a comedian like him - it's either funny or not funny and nothing else matters.

Don't beat yourself up. He got ten good minutes and one bad minute out of you. You were just being drunk and stupid. I'm sure he's had worse.

"Obstreperous"? Really? You're a cunt's cunt.

And oh boy, that Jacod Sirof!! More NASCAR jokes, now!! Generalizations would be nice too, please.

I think "obstreperous" is a very common word. It's certainly appropriate, and it was not my intention to alienate anyone who had to look it up. If you had to look it up, sorry.

I have no idea what you're trying to say about Jacob Sirof. The gig went down exactly as I described.
