We were called in today for a staff meeting to discuss overtime. Last year the news staff along accumulated enough that it was the equivalent of the salary for another reporter. Strangely enough, instead of increasing the news staff cap to eight reporters we have to watch our hours more closely and we'll be lucky to get a sixth person to replace

This issue is two sided. Remember yourself, as everyone else has said. If they don't want overtime, then punch out at 6. Don't let yourself suffer because they are in deep shit.

On the other hand, don't hate them. They are in trouble, they know it, you know it, and they are embarassed about it. They aren't as smart as you and they are trying to figure out how to work things. Life is a scary place, and sometimes people put that fear, that stress, on other people. They're trying to put it on you, don't let them, but don't kill them for being afraid.

But, at the end of the year, when it comes down to you or them, split. They've got to sail their own boat and company on a sinking ship aint worth a penny.
