Seven years, and then goodbye

Jul 29, 2012 00:31

For seven years, she's been by my side, slightly ahead, leading the way as she was taught to do. For seven years, we've read each other's body language through harness and leash, navigating airports, university campuses, stages, and city streets. For seven years, she's been my constant companion, never more contented than when she could press her ( Read more... )

I'm so sorry that time has come. I've never had a guide so don't know the right things to say, but I do know that is a hard bond to let go of. I could say at least you know she'll be with someone who will care for her, but I know that's not always a comfort. Know that I am thinking of the 2 of you, and hoping and praying that your parnership with your next dog goes as well. bih hugs.

Thank you so much for your kindness. It's not always a matter of knowing the right thing to say. It's more about stopping by to say anything at all. For this, I thank you.

I am glad that she'll be going to someone you know, and where she will be well looked after, but I can completely understand that wrench you will feel when you have to leave her behind. Such a close bond; I have a love for my pets which has been unsurpassable (even by the love of my own children -- it's just something different) but when it's a partner in crime you're talking about, that's something else. I can only imagine how difficult it would be.

Big hugs to you and to Caroline, and to the new guy in your life, and I wish the transition to be as smooth as possible. Would love a description of your new boy, when you feel able.

I actually just posted a basic description of him. Hopefully, when I'm on class, I'll get someone to take pictures of him. If not, definitely when I return home. Then, I'll post them here.

I leave tomorrow. It's awfully sad, which is like the understatement of the century. Right now, I'm just kind of numb.

Thank you for your kind words and your understanding.

I'm also hoping for a smooth transition, although I kind of wonder if there is such a thing. Hmmm. We shall have to see.

::hugs::

Another friend of mine just retired her dog. It's so hard, I am sure.

I'm glad you are getting another dog soon. She has been waiting for months.

"Velcro Dog" is a cute nickname.

Thinking of you!

I was lucky this time. I waited fourteen months for my first dog, and nine for Caroline. So, this happened a lot faster than I thought it would. You can never really say when a new dog will come along. It's just about which dog the school thinks will be a good match. I wish your friend the very best of luck.
